What’s new? v4.101 — Land straight on your own work, and an inventory that stops duplicating devices

What’s new? v4.101 — Land straight on your own work, and an inventory that stops duplicating devices

The landing dashboard now shows first what each person has assigned, everyone picks their own home page, and the inventory stops duplicating laptops, understands containers and can be edited in bulk.

v4.101.2 — The inventory stops duplicating devices, understands containers and VMs, and can be edited in bulk

After running the discovery probe twice, one laptop showed up twice in the inventory. It was not a probe bug: the device used a private network address (the kind phones and modern laptops generate) and introduced itself under a different name each day. Those addresses were ignored on purpose because they change; now they count as a last-resort clue, and when you approve a discovered device that is already an asset, the system links it instead of duplicating it. The inbox warns you beforehand.

A Docker container or a virtual machine is no longer just another device: it is created hanging from the server that hosts it, the list hides it unless you ask, the statistics count it separately, and the server’s record shows what runs inside. That way the inventory doesn’t grow with twenty “devices” that are really part of one.

The inventory list also gains multiple selection: with several devices ticked, a bar appears to change category, location, status (including retirement) or assignment in one go, or to delete them, just like in Documents.

v4.101.1 — Menus that close, and inventory for contacts

Right after 4.101.0 came out we got the first report: the “More widgets” menu opened on hover and vanished as you moved to pick an option, especially in Firefox. Looking into it, we found the same problem elsewhere: the dashboard menus and the export and import menus for tasks inside a project did not close when you clicked outside, and in tasks two menus could end up open on top of each other. Now they all open with a click and close when you choose, click outside or press Esc.

The inventory moves forward too. Categories and locations, which could only be created by importing a spreadsheet, can now be added from their settings. Also, a device can be assigned to an external contact or a supplier, not only to a user: the contact signs their acknowledgement through a link, with no account needed, and every assignment change is kept in the device’s history.

v4.101.0 — Land straight on your own work

People in sales live in the CRM; people on support live in the ticket inbox. Yet everyone opened the same project dashboard every morning and then had to navigate to where their work was.

When we looked into why, we found that the modules already shipped their own dashboard widgets (the sales funnel, tickets, the tax summary), but no screen displayed them. Now the dashboard shows them and orders them by what each person has assigned, not by role: a salesperson sees their funnel right under the figures, someone on support sees their tickets, and whoever works on projects still sees projects first. A module where you have nothing takes no space; it is one click away under “More widgets”.

You can go further: in your profile, each person chooses their own home page, which can be the dashboard, a module such as the CRM, or “where I left off”. It only changes where you land when you sign in: the dashboard stays one click away, and a link that arrives by email still goes where it points. Also, if over two weeks nearly everything someone opens is in one module, the dashboard asks them once whether they want to land there directly. We never change where anyone lands without asking.
